Rural and Energy Impacted Areas of Texas have critical transportation needs that must be met in order to continue economic growth, provide the infrastructure necessary for population growth, and save lives on our highways. That’s why I support:
- Complete of the Texas Trunk System. TXDOT needs to review the current system and add necessary components to address our current needs, including the energy sector, since the plan was last updated in 2001. TXDOT needs to reprioritize projects based on rural population growth and energy production to address the factors that are driving increased traffic throughout our statewide system.
- Provide Improved Shoulders on Rural 2 Lane Roadways. TXDOT needs to dedicate funding to their important safety program, much as they did with previous bond funding. These shoulders along with rumble strips can help save lives in East, West, North and South Texas, and TXDOT’s own data shows the program to be one of the most cost beneficial improvements that can be made.
- Driveways and Safety Improvements at High Traffic Energy Terminals. TXDOT needs to exercise existing authority and develop criteria to allow for these types of improvements at high traffic intersections to make our energy impacted roadways safer and reduce costly edging failures.
