In 2010 drivers were 2.5 times more likely to be killed in traffic crashes in the Odessa District than the rest of Texas.
The Permian Basin currently produces approximately 75% of the crude in our state. In addition, our area is among the highest in gas production and leads the state in actual production of wind power. Our abundant sunlight and longer daylight hours also make us the prime location for solar power development.
However, when it comes to addressing the pavement conditions and capacity constraints created in our transportation system by a growing energy industry, it seems like folks in Austin are directing all the funding to North and South Texas. We have even heard that they just don’t hear about any problems out here in the Permian Basin.
Once again we need your help. Please register your support for the Permian Basin to get our fair share of transportation funding and give us your input on any specific projects or roadways that you feel should be addressed. We will share your input with local and statewide elected officials, the TXDOT Odessa District, and the Transportation Commission in Austin.
Ask your family and friends to register their support as well, so we can make sure folks in Austin know about the needs here in the Permian Basin and help build a safer and more efficient transportation system for the future.
